Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra Meaning

The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is said to be beneficial for mental, emotional and physical health and to be a moksha mantra which bestows longevity and immortality. Also know as Rudra mantra, is addressed to Shiva for warding off untimely death. It is also chanted while smearing Vibhuti over various parts of the Body and utilised in Japa or Homa (havan) to get desired results. While its energy protects and guides the initiates a mantra re-links consciousness to its deeper and more abiding nature and repetition of the mantra constitutes Japa, the practice of which develops concentration that leads to a transformation of awareness.

ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्उ
र्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात्
Meaning: "We concentrate on our third eye which lies behind the two eyes and this gives us the power to feel you and by this we feel happy, satisfied and peace in life. We know immortality is not possible but some extension can be given to our death by your powers Lord Shiva."
Whereas the Gayatri Mantra is meant for purification and spiritual guidance, the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is meant for healing rejuvenation and nurturance. It is a combination of three Hindi language words i.e. ‘Maha’, which means great, ‘Mrityun’ means death and ‘Jaya’ means victory, which turns into conquer or victory over death.It is also known as ‘Rudra Mantra’ or ‘Trayambakam Mantra’.
Maha Mrityunjaya rejuvenates, bestows health, wealth, long life, peace, prosperity and contentment. With faith in Lord Shiva, the healing and nourishing forces enter the human body through foods, medicines, supportive emotions, and encouraging thoughts. The Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra attracts these forces and creates an inner environment to enhance their effectiveness.
