Fig is a source of fruit with full of vitamins, minerals and fibre. It is the fruit of the fig tree (Ficus), which is a member of the mulberry family, usually found in Asia. In India, the fruit is called anjeer. They can be eaten fresh or dried, and used in jam-making. Most commercial production is in dried or otherwise processed forms, since the ripe fruit does not transport well, and once picked does not keep well. Fresh figs are delicate and perishable, so are often dried to preserve them.
